Review: Bad Boys For Life

Almost 25 years later the “Bad Boys” return to face overwhelming odds and possible retirement. Will Smith’s “Mike Lowrey” is ever the playboy with no real meaningful connections, outside of his partner and his subsequent family. While Martin Lawrence’s “Marcus Burnett” has fully taken over to the relaxed Grandpa or “Pop-Pop” slice of life. The tank isn’t empty for these two, but they have a career with more years behind it, than in front.

Those past years come to haunt Mike as a woman and son build an empire to claim vengeance for a lost Husband. Officials and Police start falling in Miami as bullets fly through the streets. Mike himself takes some fire, which puts off his opportunity to “Ride or Die” and take out the bad guys.

Losing a step or two is only natural for the detectives and it’s never more apparent than when they meet a new younger Police task force led by an old flame of Mike’s named Rita (Played by Paola Nunez). New weapons, technology and tactics make for a more lawful Police engagement, but the old dogs find themselves more comfortable pushing the lines and destroying everything in their paths, while explosions frame them from behind. Some Bad Boys will never change.

And change is really what this film is about. Getting older and finding peace with who they are and the life they want. Don’t be mistaken though, the speed, excitement and grandiose over-the-top action is still there. As well as the comedy, which they seemed to pick up again easily.

One thing I will say though, is that Directors Adil and Bilall did a good Michael Bay impression. Some of the pacing and action feeling very much in tone. Bad Boys for Life is a fun excursion for any fans of the franchise and you’ll get what you’re paying for with this ticket purchase.
