Netflix’s The Babysitter quickly became a cult favorite. And now the slasher flick has a sequel. Unfortunately, life for Cole (Judah Lewis) is still hell, even after surviving a bloody cult massacre.
The Babysitter: Killer Queen picks up two years after the first movie. Cole is still dealing with the trauma from his horrific night. No one believes his story of how a weekend with his babysitter turned deadly. The only one who seems to be on his side is Melanie (Emily Alyn Lind), his friend/ love interest from the first film. To get him out of his head for a bit, she invites him to a lake party. What starts as a fun weekend turns into another deadly nightmare.
Once they arrive, Cole finds out Melanie is now part of the blood cult. Along with the new members, his old enemies: Allison (Bella Thorne), Max (Robbie Amell), Sonya (Hana Mae Lee), and John (Andrew Bachelor) have returned to complete the ritual. Once again, he becomes the target of their murderous mission.
This time, however, Cole isn’t battling the cult members himself. He teams up with the new girl in town, Phoebe (Jenna Ortega) when she accidentally walks in on the cults first kill.
Just like the first movie, you can expect this one to be just as silly and stupid. The Babysitter: Killer Queen brings many laughs with its corny storyline and cheesy b-rated horror movie kills. While the over-the-top personalities and slap-stick style kills are still there, the sequel loses the first films charm. That’s mainly due to not having Bee (Samara Weaving) and Coles friendship.
Cole and Bee’s relationship is what held the first movie together. Their friendship was adorable, and even though she and her friends were hunting poor Cole, you can tell she cared for him.
In this sequel, it felt like they were trying to make up for her absence by bringing Phoebe into the mix. The one thing I did enjoy was that her character was not brought in to be solely Coles “love interest,” but to add to the backstory of the original plotline.
The Babysitter: Killer Queen gives you some laughs, but lacks the charm of the first film. The Babysitter: Killer Queen gives you some laughs, but lacks the charm of the first film.
